Are you planning to rent your second home in Provincetown as a short-term rental?
Before you build your profile on Airbnb (or better yet, contact a fabulous gay-owned short-term rental property management company like Prideaway Stays), be sure to read the regulations and requirements by the Town of Provincetown.
The Provincetown Board of Health Habitations for Rent regulations apply to both short-term and long-term rentals. If you are renting your property, you are required to obtain a Renter's Certificate here - https://provincetownma.viewpointcloud.com/categories/1087
The process is not particularly difficult, but it’s become more expensive over the years as the Town has begun cracking down on unregistered rentals.
Information can be found at the Town of Provincetown website - https://www.provincetown-ma.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=1504
The Town reserves the right to inspect the property to ensure the following:
That the property is kept in good repair
All smoke and CO detectors are working
All fire extinguishers and emergency lights are working
Egresses are unobstructed
All doors and windows are operable and have screens
All plumbing fixtures are in good repair.
You will need to register with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and remit occupancy tax for all direct bookings (Airbnb and Vrbo collect and remit taxes on your behalf). https://www.mass.gov/info-details/room-occupancy-excise-tax
